We had what can only be called a Surprise Gig on Thursday night (17/11/16)! Our good friend and frequent sound-man, Shaggy, was playing with a band at the Hideaway Bar at Enmore, and their support band had to pull out at the last minute – so, wheels were put in motion through the magic of facebook and the internet, and next thing we knew we were on the bill! It was definitely a surprise when Simon rang at about 11:30 on Thursday morning to tell us we had a gig that night in Enmore – if we weren’t doing anything else, that is…
A quick set list was drawn up – we hadn’t gigged for a little while and had been focussing on learning a few new songs, some of which are really promising but really not gig-ready yet. So it was a matter of choosing stuff from our older favourites and hoping we weren’t too rusty – there was no time to brush anything up!
How did it go? Pretty well, we thought! The crowd seemed to like what we did, and we were having a good time too – playing live is always fun (once you get over any initial butterflies, in my case!), and a bit of encouragement from the crowd goes a long way, so if YOU were there, Thanks very much!
We stayed on to hear Shaggy and “The Old Brown Boot Band“, and were glad we did. These guys were good – great sound and song selection. They seamlessly mixed in a few originals with some good covers – a bit more on the bluesier side, which is never a bad thing for mine. Keep your eye out for them, and as they say, “don’t miss them if you get the chance”. We wouldn’t mind playing more gigs with them either! (Thanks to the guys for giving us this particular opportunity anyway.)
Sorry we didn’t get the word out very well for this gig – it really was short notice given we were all at our day jobs when the news broke! We’ll try better next time, promise!
