The Big Gig!

On the 12 of December (2014) we had the great pleasure of playing at The Basement, one of Sydney’s best known music venues. It was an afternoon gig, but that didn’t make it any less of an occasion for us! This is a place we’ve all been to, seeing various international and top local artists! Very up-market indeed.

Once we’d met the sound man and set everything up, it was back to the green room to add our names to the hundreds of others on the walls and ceiling.

Pretty soon it was time to play, but only after our compare, Greg, got the crowd revved up and gave us a rousing introduction – then on we went, following the well trodden corridor from the green room to the stage!

We were playing for a Sydney University end-of-year function, and the crowd were in a great mood from the start. We weren’t the only entertainment there, as the Uni folks had formed a few karoke groups for their own battle-of-the-bands contest, so our sets had to be kept short, but the reception we got for every song was fantastic! Even a temporary mid-set evacuation for a fire alarm couldn’t dampen the mood (though the sprinklers might have, had they gone off!). The karoke groups were great – very funny and very clever, which I suppose is what you’d expect from University people, but they really were very, very good and kept everyone entertained.

Our second set went even better than the first, thankfully sans fire alarm this time, and just when I truly thought we’d finished (and well over the original time estimates on the afternoons running sheet), they wouldn’t let us go without one more! What could we do but oblige, of course! Greg came back to the mic and gave us a heartfelt thankyou, and once again whipped the crowd up into more thunderous applause! What can I say? Did we feel great or what? I felt fantastic! I felt like I was part of some mega-star rock band! I felt like packing in the day job! (But I got better…)

Thanks again to Greg and all the folks at Sydney Uni who gave us this chance to play at such an iconic venue, and for making us feel so good when we did!
